Sorority News For The World

Well I was there. Sorority world is as popular as ever. People are still graduating with sorority and fraternity love and wearing their greek garb in coordination with their cap and gowns. I, Dorrie Williams Wheeler was invited to see many important AKA, Delta Sigma Theta, Delta Zeta, Sigma Kappa, Alpha Gamma Delta, Zeta Phi Beta, and Sigma Gamma Rho members graduate and I mean all the girls looked great. I noticed for the most part the black female Greeks went "low key" for their parents as graduation so monumental you don't want the world to be like "Remember that one AKA with that like pink shawl looking thing on her gown?" or even worse "Who even remembered that Sigma Gamma Rho that walked the stage" but a few braved the "Who is that?" And wore the sorority identification item on their cap and gown day. The guys went all out so yes I saw jumping Que Dogs and happy Kappas. The white sorority women of Delta Zeta and Sigma Kappa happy to graduate as were the Alpha Gamma Delta friends who I saw graduate. Congratulations to Fall 2010 Greek Graduates and remember from Coast to Coast Kappa Alpha Psi members preparing for 2011-the one hundred year anniversary of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.

Delta Sigma Theta Member Killed-Community Shocked and Saddened

The Memphis Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc suffered a terrible tragedy. The Memphis chapter is approaching its 75th anniversary this weekend December 3rd-December 5th. The pain that the chapter is suffering is terrible as Lora G. Sandridge the co-chair of the big event was killed on the way to her grandsons 7th birthday party. More than 1,000 Deltas gathered for the Omega Omega Service to send their beloved soror home. What a sad story. Be sure to read this important article.

Sigma Kappa Sadly Mourns Former Sister

Members of Sigma Kappa Sorority, recently held a candle light vigil to mourn a fallen sister. A sorority sister of theirs was murdered over 10 years ago but that doesn't diminish the pain from Sigma Kappa members world wide. To lose a sorority sister is just horrible and people have to realize that homicide is horrible, homicide is wrong and it takes friends, family and sorority members a true lifetime to get over the death of a sorority sister. The sorority sister was named Andrea Will and she was murdered in February of 1998. The shocking but society (get ready) news is that her ex boyfriend, who did kill her who was sentenced to 24 years in prison, was released from prison recently after serving 12 years in prison. The sorority members wrote a poem to remember her death.

Okay so the sorority season rolls on

Well people are starting to tell me that life is getting better. There is less hazing, thank God for that. No one wants a tough life especially as an undergraduate college student. Life is supposed to be good and when joining a sorority people should be in a good mood and starting to get to know each other. The Youtube videos that I showed the other day are supposed to get people out there really excited that just like with the launch of www.sororitysister.net that there are many multi-cultural sororities out there that people can attempt to join. No longer are we living in that so far off world of people with just one or two choices when it comes to joining a sorority. The good thing is that Facebook.com is a real good community for Greeks talking all day long about all kind of sorority issues--fraternity people too. Now since people use my book Be My Sorority Sister-Under Pressure for some lines because face it, some of these people are "too old" and sometimes they do offer up suggested reading lists and most schools so long ago approved my book as approved reading for Greek organizations but at the same time so long ago like 2003 many schools did not approve Be My Sorority Sister-Under Pressure as approved reading for Greeks on Campus, but usually alumnae chapters have more FREEDOM to read what the hell they want to but as an undergrad so called "pledging a line" and still hoping to graduate, get accepted into graduate school and land that all important job one day, its a little more difficult, its hard for me to listen to and imagine these young people having to do something as huge as try to be responsible for these young people and get them into a sorority. Imagine some of them have like no money and might only have the few hundred dollars they want to pledge with and some of them might not have that real background knowledge of sorority life--the stories--some of them think that schools give the Greeks cars for step show trips. Liability with sorority is real and I think the sorority members doing their thing on Youtube.com deserve to be congratulated.

Well everyone is real happy this Krimson and Kreme season. I have some Kappas that want to say a few things. Norfolk State wants people who still have the fun and Greek vibe to come through this homecoming season. People at Hampton are saying the same thing. Now "Be My Sorority Sister-Under Pressure" was very helpful to Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc members who helped with Delta Academy Girls this summer and they also had several teen pregnancy awareness campaigns with The Unplanned Pregnancy Book for Teens and College Students. I have had this blog a long time and the right people know how to reach me okay but I can't have it like it was in 2003 when I had to take it down for people wanting to post businesses and Greek Paraphanelia stuff all the time. Now being the author of the book Be My Sorority Sister Under Pressure I have done book signings with many fraternities and sororities the past seven years. SO MUCH LOVE from so many people even the girls who made Beta Gamma Psi Sorority Fan Groups related to Be My Sorority Sister-Under Pressure, all the love is appreciated. So I mean remember that so many people are hitting me up Facebook that right way with good stuff. Now from California to North Carolina, to Virginia to Chesapeake to everywhere really good people have continued to make my book a success.

Hello, it is me Dorrie Williams Wheeler the author of Be My Sorority Sister Under Pressure and the webmaster of Sororitysister.net.

People have been saying to me, school just started is it too soon to walk out in Delta, Aka, Zeta, Sigma Gamma Rho, Sigma Kappa, Delta Zeta, Delta, Delta, Delta, Sigma, Sigma, Sigma, Alpha Gamma Delta, and Kappa Sweetheart-K Sweet Jackets. Now the main thing is this--the 100 year anniversary of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc events have been rolling into my inbox. You have to check South Carolina, Wake Forest area, like Bowling Green Kentucky these are the Kappas that have hollered at me about 1911-2011. I can't wait, I mean it I can't wait. I am so excited I have so many friends, one hundred years of K-AY-Psi, they are going to clown they are planning so many events all around the world for 100 years of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. Now this question about the jackets and stuff usually comes from my haunt my old stomping grounds of Norfolk State and Old Dominion by the forest and sh*t. The main thing is, "If we break out the jackets too soon will people be expecting us to form a line? Or will they think they missed a short line that like happened right when school started." I am saying bring your jackets out Labor Day Weekend and I mean it. Pick a school like one of my favorite schools like bring the noise capital like Rutgers-New Brunswick, Temple, Seton Hall, Wake Forest, UNC Charlotte, and Duke--imagine just a slight breeze and rocking your little Sigma Kappa jacket and finding your Pike "sweetheart" dude or rocking your Zeta Phi Beta jacket and seeing that Sigma who had the summer job working down at Disney.

So I mean it, bring out the jackets Labor Day weekend, like even that Friday at your Student Union (loving the Lady Sov song Student Union) or if you all are at the Student Center. Be prepared for curious looks, hater looks, questions and all that.

Santa Monica, Calif., February 14, 2008 – -- Life seems super sweet at 16 for birthday boy/new driver Jordan Lewis (Lil’ JJ) who’s revving up to escort his dream girl, Autumn (Chelsea Tavares) to a gala party in Just Jordan: “Picture Me Rollin’,” a Nickelodeon TV movie inspired by the hit TEENick series, premiering Sunday, March 2 at 8 p.m. (ET/PT).

“Laughter, romance and a life lesson or two come wrapped in a big, comic adventure for Just Jordan’s first TV movie,” says Nickelodeon’s Marjorie Cohn, Executive Vice President, Development and Original Programming. “Kids will love seeing Jordan experience the milestones that go along with turning 16, like getting a driver’s license and going on your first date.”

Jordan counts on everything falling into place for his sixteenth birthday after he passes the driver’s test, receives an invitation to teen model Autumn’s “Sweet 16/Lash Girl” event and is handed the keys to a hot muscle car, courtesy of Grandpa. Now, he just needs to summon the courage to ask his long-time crush Autumn to be his date for the party. When she makes it easy by banishing her mysterious ex-boyfriend for good, Jordan thinks he’s on the ultimate roll. But “birthday bash” takes on a whole new meaning when he accidentally bangs into a rich guy’s parked car as he heads to the party. The tycoon takes pity on the mortified teen, offering his limo to take Jordan and Autumn to the party. They wind up riding in style, but their trip takes a wild detour when their limo driver leaves them in the lurch at the mini-mart and what starts out as one of the greatest nights of Jordan’s life quickly turns into one of the most unpredictable.

Just Jordan is created and executive produced by Alison Taylor (The Cheetah Girls). Warren Hutcherson (The Bernie Mac Show) is executive producer and co-executive producers are Teri Schaffer (The Bernie Mac Show) and David Hoge & Dan Cross (One on One).

Now in its second season, the show centers on Jordan Lewis, a transplant from Little Rock, Arkansas to Los Angeles, who splits his time between school and waiting tables at his Grandpa's (Beau Billingslea) diner.

Jordan’s pals Tony (Justin Chon) Joaquin (Eddy Martin) and Tangie (Raven Goodwin) join him in adolescent antics while Autumn (Chelsea Tavares) keeps him in check as his hard-to-get love-interest. Kristen Combs co-stars as Jordan’s little sister Monica and Shania Accius as his no-nonsense mom, Pam.
